Libation – Clio Velentza

Come, you said, let’s see the island from afar. Let’s get the boat, two bottles of retsina, pour a libation to the gods. You wanted to relish the sea with your nakedness. Look at the harbor, its iron mandible. The water was gleaming, dissolving into sky. Your black hair was a dark star. Come, dive! Heard your drunken laugh, heard you swallow the salt-water. So much light that it was darkness. I was too far and too sun-dazed. Us, you’d say, we came from water. My eyes have yet to fully open. I do not know what I will see.
